What is a Topic Summary?

A topic summary is a one-page summary of an individual topic within a subject’s curriculum.

The topic summary gives an overview of the topic being studied, an outline of the lesson sequence, and an outline of accompanying resources such as recommended reading.  The aim of this single page summary of each topic is to give pupils and parents a greater overview of learning in a subject and how it is all linked.  We think by understanding the bigger picture of what will be studied, it will be easier for pupils to understand their current learning, and for parents to be able to support them.

How does a Topic Summary work?

The topic summary is divided into sections which each contain different pieces of information.  Generally speaking, all topic summaries for all subjects should follow a set template.  Some subjects may have adapted the template to fit their subject better, but, in general, they should follow the same format in the example below.
